Aimee Moore, Corporate Controller named “2021 Controller of the Year” by Controllers Council

On February 21, 2022, the Controllers Council, a leading national community, association and platform of Controllers, CFOs, and corporate accounting and finance professionals named the winners of the 2021 Controller of the Year award. Winner in the Enterprise/Private Category was Spartronics Corporate Controller, Aimee Moore.

The Controller’s Council is centered on best practices, training and career resources, recognition, and multiple peer interaction opportunities. We sat down with Corporate Controller, Aimee Moore to ask a few questions about the Controllers Council and her involvement.

Question: Aimee, how and when did you get involved with the Controllers Council?

Answer: This is a new organization for me. I started to engage in 2021 by researching the organization, Controller’s Council. I realized that this association had several talented individuals including Controllers, CFOs, and Corporate Accountants that are a part of a national community and I knew it would be a great opportunity to network with my peers.

Question: Tell us more about the Controller of the Year award and how you became nominated?

Answer: I received an email from the Council that they were taking nominations for Controller of the Year. Honestly, I did not think much of it at first because I have never won a professional award. However, I forwarded it to a co-worker, and she nominated me.

Question: Tell us about your work experience, education or philanthropic activities that help compliment your role as a Corporate Controller?

Answer: My career started off on a much different path. I hold a Spanish degree from the University of Virginia. My first job out of college had me working on spreadsheets all the time. When I moved from Virginia to Minnesota in 1996, I decided to go back to school and get an accounting degree. I worked full time in public accounting and went to school at night at the University of Minnesota’s Carlson School of Business. After spending five years in public accounting, I left there for a job in industry. I became a CPA in 2003 and have now worked in manufacturing, medical device, retail, software, e-commerce, and service industries, including public and private/equity owned organizations.

I served as treasurer for Home At Last Adoption Agency from December 2010 – January 2016, the same agency where my husband and I adopted our youngest son. I have advised many families who want to know more about adoption and the adoption process. In addition, I recently became a board member for the University of Mankato’s Women in Leadership Advisory Program. This position allows me the opportunity to mentor young women who are just starting out in their career. Sharing my story and the twisted path I took to becoming a Controller is a good story to share with these young women.

Question: How has Spartronics played a role in your career development?

Answer: Spartronics has afforded me an amazing opportunity to grow in my career. I was hired by our incumbent prior to being purchased by private equity. This allowed me the opportunity to see how the business operated before we became a new, stand-alone organization. Once we were sold, I was responsible for establishing a corporate accounting department and had to implement all new financial tools for the organization – banking, corporate credit card programs, policies and procedures, expense reporting, shared services, etc. I am blessed to work with the team of Controllers from various Spartronics sites. They are a group of talented and knowledgeable individuals.

Question: Now that you’ve won Controller of the Year, what is next? What do you see yourself focusing on in the next 2-3 years?

Answer: My ultimate career goal is to be a CFO. I am honored to report to Annette Cusworth, CFO of Spartronics. Annette is a fabulous leader and mentor, and I believe I can learn a lot from her over the next few years. In the meantime, there is never a dull moment at Spartronics, so I am confident I will continue to learn and grow even more as the company embarks on its strategic growth goals.
